Immigration Visit at DM Digital Television Network |
Immigration Officials back tracks the action against DM Digital Television Network. The premises of DM Digital based at Turner Street Manchester was visited by the immigration agency on the 27th September 2007 on the allegations of the local newspaper MEN that they were employees in the premises who did not have leave to enter or no entitlement to work in UK.
Ian Collings of the Border & Immigration Agency said that the records we examine it was clear the number of the employees had supporting documentations to work in UK but they appeared to be no records to the persons who were escorted from the premises of DM Digital, but later released upon the verification of their documentations.
It is decided that no action will be taken on this occasion but we require all employers to keep records of the all employees under section 8 of immigration act.
Philip Engleman Barrister for Dr. Malik comments regarding Article of Manchester Evening News
Mr. Engleman of Cloisters Chambers in Temple London on 29 July 2004 says that the Law Society case against Dr. Malik was nothing to do with asylum seekers or defrauding legal aid board. The allegation was he and his firm did not put the Legal Aid bills within the time limit under the regulation 72 of Legal Aid regulations. '' I understand that it was said in the article that Dr. Malik has defrauded the Legal Aid Board of £750,000. Not only was this no part of the Law Society's case, this allegation was not made by their counsel or supported in any part of evidence of Mr. Cowley (of LSC). On the contrary such evidences as is available shows that a sum in excess of this may well have been properly due to Dr. Malik although the precise quantum of that sum (and whether it is plus or minus but on the LSC's case substantial even if there was a shortfall) is the subject of dispute to be resolved hereafter. Therefore the allegation that there was defrauding of the legal aid to the extent of £750,000 is without any foundation.
In my view this allegation in the Manchester Evening News is without any foundation whatsoever.
K. Freer Solicitor for Dr. Malik Confirms that the interim order was made by the High Court ordering Legal Services Commission to pay £60,000 plus the £750,000 already paid on the account. Initially the Legal Services Commission maintained that there was no money due and that in fact there was a shortfall. This led to the complaint being made by the Legal Services Commission to the Law Society (Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal).
Now before the High Court judgement was entered against LSC this means that the allegation put forward before the Disciplinary Tribunal by the LSC was unfounded.
High Court Manchester Orders Legal Services Commission to Pay £810,000 To DR. MALIK
The high court judge on the 27 April 2005 orders the Legal Services Commission pay £810,000 as a interim payment to Dr. Malik.
Initially the Legal Services Commission maintained that there was no money due and that in fact there was a shortfall. This led to the complaint being made by the legal Services Commission to the Law Society (Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal) on the basis that there had been an allegation of misrepresentation by Malik Laws.
However, following filing of various reports concerning the numerous cases the Legal Services Commission ultimately agreed that monies were due to Malik Laws.
Therefore an interim order was entered into in which they were obliged to pay £60,000 to Maliks on account with further sums to follow, currently it is envisage that there will be a subsequent payment of a sum in the region of £100,000. This means that allegations put forward by the LSC in 2004 of misappropriation is unfounded.
Dr. Malik told The News That Manchester Evening News Victimising 27 April 2005
Since 2001 MEN has been printing articles to assassinate my character. MEN articles were purely used to manipulate decision of Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal in order to get me struck off Law Society Register. Despite the fact the allegations by the LSC was unfounded by the Manchester High Court in 2005. The price I paid to defend the vulnerable and Muslim people. The tribunal had no dossier of the MEN nor the Tribunal considered any allegations of the Evening News basically they were considering a dispute between Legal Services Commission and his firm. The allegation was without any foundation as High Court ruled today.
